"I'd go insane if I was on an American network television show where I was playing the same character for nine or ten months a year, every year.
"It's endlessly fulfilling to get to live with the same character for multiple years," she enthuses. Having completed Das Boot and a limited series, Are You Sleeping, for Apple, Caplan says she's now "100 per cent" looking for her next long-term television role, having wrapped on Masters of Sex – in which she played pioneering sexologist Virginia E Johnson – after three seasons in 2016.

Having worked extensively in both television ( True Blood, Party Down) and film ( Mean Girls, Cloverfield, 127 Hours), Caplan says she's "completely understands" why so many actresses who've made their career in movies are now looking elsewhere. I know that some of my TV actress friends were probably not anticipating competing with Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep for television roles! But here we are." "The film side of the industry, they're just making fewer and fewer movies, and more and more of the same kind of movie, and so the television space is attracting all levels of talent. "It feels like we're drowning in content as consumers, and yet, it's just as hard, if not harder, to find projects that you want to do, and that you can have a shot at actually getting.
